Bechtol’s homer helps lift Wharmby past Roth Bros.


STRUTHERS — Ben Bechtol hit an inside-the-park home run and doubled as Wharmby Sports defeated Roth Brothers 10-3 in Wednesday’s Class B action at Cene Park.

Josh Saverko tossed a complete game with eight strikeouts. Dom DeFelice and Evan Anzio had two hits each in support of Saverko who allowed just two earned runs in winning for the second time for Wharmby (10-3).

Bechtol was a 40th-round pick by the Detroit Tigers on Thursday.

Bubba Uhlman tripled and doubled for Roth (7-6) while Kyle Kesner added a pair of singles.

Astro Falcons 5, Rondinelli 3

A two-run single by Kyle Allen drove home the go-ahead runs while Jared Turocy pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh inning.

Turocy and Shane Wagner each had two hits for Astro (8-5) while Kolin Stanley tossed five innings for the win to improve to 2-1.

Jason Bagoly had two hits, including a two-run triple in the first inning for Rondinelli (10-3). The Falcons won even though their pitchers walked 11 as Rondinelli stranded 12 on the bases.

OTN Performance 8, Livi Steel 7

NILES — Wade Daniels’ second single scored Joe Sekula with the winning run. Sekula doubled in the seventh inning at Wilder Field in Niles.

Mike Timko and Shawn Roman both doubled and singled for OTN (8-5). Colin Bowser tossed 42‚Ñ3 innings of hitless, scoreless relief for the win, striking out nine. Brandon Smith had a single and a double for Livi (3-10). Zack McGhee (0-3) had 10 strikeouts in the complete-game loss.

Warren AA

WARREN — Dave Nypaver’s three hits led Trumbull Merchants (8-0) to a 3-0 victory over P.I.&I Express. Anthony Ragozine struck out seven and walked one.

The Champion Marlins rebounded from a Tuesday loss to defeat Leon’s Brewers, 9-1. . Winning pitcher Jeff Miller went the distance for the Marlins and tallied six strikeouts. Brewers’ relief pitcher Joe Hardy had eight strikeouts and three walks.

The Knights climbed above .500 after edging Cleats Club Seat Grille, 5-4. Andrew Beachy had a pair of doubles while Justin Street had two hits and two RBIs.

Class AA

Yo. Metros 9, Last Chance 2

YOUNGSTOWN — Dave Leon had two singles and two RBIs and Brad Bates had an 11-strikeout three-hitter for Metros in Class AA League action at Pemberton-Donnell Park.

Also for the winners, Cory Johnson knocked in two runs and Matt Durkin added two singles and an RBI.

Andy Carter had a double and two RBIs while Zane Garza and Marcus Ponch had singles for Last chance.

Yo. Metros 12, Jamestown 2

YOUNGSTOWN — Eric Pirtz had a double and two singles as part of the Metros’ 10-hit attack at Pemberton.

Dan Dobson had two doubles and two RBIs and Ross Revella knocked in three runs for Metros.
