Gospel act, musical coming to Main Street
COLUMBIANA — Main Street Theater, 5 N. Main St., will present live entertainment this weekend and next.
“Song of the Spirit,” an original production, will be performed at 8 p.m. Saturday by Top Productions of Struthers. The Stockdale Family Band, a bluegrass and gospel act, will perform at 4 p.m. June 21.
“Song of the Spirit” is a musical written and performed by Brian Palumbo and Mark Plegge, Top Hat’s director and musical director, respectively. The show mixes laughter, sadness, suspense and song as it tells the stories of three men — a slave, a man living in the 1930s and a modern day man. It uses gospel and pop songs as well as Negro spirituals to demonstrate how music can pull people through struggles. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door (price includes dessert reception during intermission).
The Stockdale Family Band was seen last year on the ABC show “Wife Swap.” Brothers Calvin, Charles, Jacob and James, with their father, Tim, will play guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo and bass in a special Father’s Day concert. All fathers will get a free ticket with the purchase of at least one ticket at the regular price of $10.
