Express rallies late for Class B victory


STRUTHERS — The Youngstown Express scored two times in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead, and then turned a double play to end the game in the 7-6 win over Action Physical Therapy in the Class B League on Wednesday at Cene Park.

Tim Vargo’s second hit of the game drove home the go ahead run while Anthony Mott, and Sean Vanderwall added a two singles for the Express (2-10).

Jon DeAmicis went six innings for the win, his first in five decisions. He allowed two earned runs while Eric French picked up the save.

Matt Corner had two hits for Action (2-10).

1080 Media 20, Dave Sugar Excavating 3

In the completion of a suspended game, 1080 Media pounded out 22 hits. Justin Vrabel had four hits, while Brad Byers and Evan Campbell had three each for the winners. Justin Summers (2-1) had 10 strikeouts for the win.

In the regularly-scheduled game Dan Popio had a single and a double and drove home two runs for 1080 Media.

Matt Shelton (2-0) went six plus innings for the win and Justin Summers picked up the save.

John Sansone had two hits for Dave Sugar (5-8). Marlo Cleckley went the distance in defeat, allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts.

Rondinelli Tuxedo 5, Astro Falcons 2

Rondinelli Tuxedo scored four times in the first inning, and used a combined one-hitter from Nathan Junk and Jamie Shepard to defeat Astro in a suspended game.

Jason Bagoly had a triple to drive home two runs in the first for Rondinelli (10-2), while Junk went four innings for the win. Shepard had four strikeouts in three innings for the save.

Kolin Stanley went the distance in defeat for Astro (7-4), allowing three earned runs with nine strikeouts.
