Early-campaign mode
YOUNGSTOWN — While the statewide election is a year away, Ohio Democratic Chairman Chris Redfern says he’s busy touting the party’s candidates now.
Redfern campaigned Tuesday in Mahoning County with Hamilton County Commissioner David Pepper, who is endorsed by state Democratic officials in next year’s auditor’s race.
Pepper plans to challenge Republican Mary Taylor, the incumbent, in the 2010 election.
“We have to get our message out sooner rather than later,” he said. “Our party doesn’t sleep. That’s why we’re here so early.”
Also, Redfern said it’s important for Democrats to do well in the Mahoning Valley, one of the party’s strongholds in the state.
