Native American-style celebration at centre

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP — The Unity Community Centre, 1226 Naylor-Lloyd Road, will celebrate Summer Solstice Native American Style on June 19 and 20.

Kicking off the celebration at 7 p.m. June 19 will be a free film and discussion on the Native American experience.

On June 20 adult activities will include two films on the Paleo and Cliff Dweller Indians, lunch and an afternoon discussion on “Women in the Native American Culture,” “The History of the Summer Solstice in Native American Society” and “Native American Drumming.” At 4 p.m. there will be a lesson in drumming for adults.

Activities for children on June 20 include learning a secret code, making bracelets, creating picture stories, lunch, a movie and a snake dance.

The day will conclude with a concert by the Lakota Indian Drum Group from Benton.

The cost for Saturday activities will be $5 for adults and $3 for children, and includes lunch and materials. For reservations or more information, call (330) 539-0122.
