A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
June 2
Bad checks: A 37-year-old Poland man was charged with passing bad checks, accused of having written six such checks totaling about $222 at Giant Eagle, 3130 Center Road.
June 4
Arrest: A 49-year-old Lowellville Road man was arrested at his home on a warrant charging him with failure to appear in court.
Theft: A compact-disc box set and three CDs were removed from a residence in the 5400 block of Kennedy Road.
June 7
Weapon: A traffic stop in the 2700 block of Center Road resulted in a 19-year-old Boardman man’s being charged with carrying a concealed weapon when, police said, a folding knife was in his car.
Drugs: A township man, 19, was pulled over near U.S. Route 224, where he and a Campbell man, 18, were charged with drug abuse. Just under 25 grams of suspected marijuana was found, a report said.
BOARDMAN
June 4
Burglary: Fifty DVDs, a pillow case and $200 were reported missing from a Washington Boulevard apartment.
Theft: A woman’s wallet was stolen at a Boardman-Poland Road eatery.
Theft: A woman reported her purse stolen as she shopped at a U.S. Route 224 store.
Counterfeit: A woman told police her elderly mother had received a $4,875 check from Amherst, N.Y., before the victim’s bank notified her that the check was phony.
Stolen property: Authorities conducted vehicle checks in the 5200 block of Market Street, one of which revealed a man wanted on a warrant. The 22-year-old Youngstown man was booked on a charge of receiving stolen property.
Theft: A Campbell boy, 15, was accused in the theft of a $40 pair of shoes from Gabriel Bros., 850 Boardman-Poland Road.
Theft: A global-positioning system unit was removed from a vehicle in the 200 block of DeBartolo Place.
Theft: A $30 DVD was stolen from Best Buy, 561 Boardman-Poland Road.
June 5
Criminal damaging: A van’s hood, front bumper and front fender were damaged in the 7400 block of Market Street.
Criminal damaging: A Poland boy, 14, surrendered, was charged and released to the custody of a relative and a guardian after having been accused of tossing an egg at a Mathews Road home.
Drugs: A 28-year-old East Liverpool woman was cited on Market Street on three counts of possession of drugs, and was wanted on a warrant from Columbiana County.
Theft: A 41-year-old city man was picked up near South Avenue on charges of theft, possession of criminal tools and obstructing official business after three clothing items were removed from Rainbow Apparel, 1208 Doral Drive. The man, who also was wanted on a larceny charge, provided an incorrect Social Security number to police, a report said.
Arrest: Police charged a Youngstown woman, 59, with obstructing official business when, officers said, she gave false personal information during a traffic stop.
Identity theft: A Boardman woman found out someone had used her daughter’s personal information without authorization.
Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Lemans Drive woman reported her sister took the accuser’s 1993 Ford Probe without permission.
June 6
Theft: A city girl, 15, was charged after a scarf and three earrings were stolen from Claire’s Boutique in the Southern Park Mall.
Domestic violence: Police charged a township man, 39, with domestic violence and resisting arrest after a woman alleged that, during an argument, her boyfriend sped off in a vehicle as she tried to open the door, resulting in the woman’s falling into the street and scraping her knee and elbow. The man also ran from police, they said.
Theft: Two 12-inch woofers, a 500-watt amplifier and an Xbox 360 game console were stolen from a car parked in the 800 block of Mathews Road.
Arrest: Police responded to the attempted theft of a bicycle in the 5100 block of South Avenue and took into custody a township woman, 49, wanted on a probation-violation charge.
Arrest: A traffic stop in the 7000 block of Southern Boulevard led to the arrest of a 41-year-old Youngstown man. He was wanted on a felony warrant from Wood County, Ohio.
Theft: Police charged a 19-year-old Struthers woman with the theft of 15 articles of clothing, costing the J.C. Penney store in the Southern Park Mall about $281.
Assault: A man at a South Avenue business told police another man tried to pull the accuser from his vehicle, causing his left side to be pinned against an arm rest. The man had bruising and soreness to the affected area.
June 7
Theft/criminal damaging: Doors to a storage shed in the 300 block of West Midlothian Boulevard sustained damage before someone took from the shed a lawn mower, a snow blower and a grill.
Theft: Fifteen CDs and a lighter were taken from a Carter Circle apartment.
Drug paraphernalia: A Struthers man, 19, faced a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia after police found on Shields Road two spoons with suspected heroin residue and two syringe caps. Police said the man was in possession of the items.
