McCulloh announces
YOUNGSTOWN — Kevin McCulloh of Boardman High School will play baseball at YSU.
McCulloh was a four-year varsity pitcher at Boardman High.
“We became a better program the day that Kevin committed,” YSU head coach Rich Pasquale said.
“We’re excited to have him, and we know he’ll have a great career at YSU. I’m not only excited about his velocity, he also has a very high ceiling with his body and arm action.”
McCulloh was an All-Federal League selection for the Spartans.

Umpires are busy
COLUMBUS — Two local umpires — Jeff Davis of Poland and Jerry Denovchek of Warren — officiated games in the OHSAA state baseball tournaments.
Six local umpires — Anthony Montana, Patrick Montana, Don Feren, Paul Bevilacqua, Ritchie Bellas and Richard Vrbancic officiated games in the OHSAA state softball tournaments.
Steel Valley Rumble
CAMPBELL — The Steel Valley Rumble boxing show will be June 27 at the Campbell Memorial fieldhouse.
The headliner of the card is Andres Taylor (8-0-1, 4 KOs) of Johnstown, Pa.
Welterweight Jake Giuriceo (2-0, 1 KO) is scheduled on the same program.
Also featured on the card are Mickey and Cortez Bey of Cleveland.
Lightweight Mickey Bey is 12-0, 7 KOs while his younger brother Cortez is 8-0, 5 KOs.

Kinnick a Titan
CANFIELD — Jessica Kinnick of Canfield will attend Westminster College and play golf for the Titans.
Kinnick won three letters and was a All-Northeast Ohio Golf Coaches’ Association Honorable Mention pick.
Kinnick was a member of the squad who qualified and went to the State Golf Tournament in 2006.
Bodo is honored
BETHANY, W. Va. — Bethany senior Jodi Bodo has been voted to the ESPN the Magazine Second Team Academic All-District II Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country team.
This is Bodo’s second consecutive appearance on the Second Team Academic All-District II team.
After running cross country for the first time in the fall, Bodo had an exceptional track and field season.
She was a two-time PAC Runner of the Week this spring and earned All-PAC honors in three events at the conference championship meet.
That total included anchoring the 4x400 relay to the PAC title.

GROVE CITY, Pa. — Two Grove City College athletes earned ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) College Division Academic All-District II honors for cross country and track and field through voting by the region’s sports information directors.
Junior middle distance runner Derek Kruse earned First Team Academic All-District while senior Julia Seward is a Second Team All-District selection.
Kruse is a three-year letterman and has helped Grove City capture three consecutive Presidents’ Athletic Conference titles.
Seward earned her second Academic All-District honor after a strong senior season.

Madrid signs Kaka
MADRID, Spain — Real Madrid has announced the signing of Brazilian star Kaka from AC Milan.
Madrid gave no financial details but reports on Monday said the Spanish club will pay Milan $92 million for the attacking midfielder, making it one of the richest deals in soccer history.
The largest previous transfer was set by Zinedine Zidane when he joined Madrid from Juventus for $65 million in 2001.
Milan also confirmed Kaka’s transfer to Madrid on its Web site.
Kaka, who passed a medical in the northeastern Brazilian city of Recife earlier Monday, has signed a six-year contract.
Faulk wins 110 hurdles
PRAGUE — Dexter Faulk of the United States won the men’s 110-meter hurdles at the Josef Odlozil Memorial Grand Prix, posting the fifth fastest time in the world this year.
