Oberlin policy on pledge draws legislator’s attention
COLUMBUS — A provision added to the state budget by a Republican lawmaker would protect teachers who want to have students recite the Pledge of Allegiance in their classrooms.
Sen. Gary Cates, from the Cincinnati area, offered the amendment after hearing about a decades-old policy of not allowing the pledge to the flag at the Oberlin school district, southwest of Cleveland.
