Job seekers swamp Ohio State Fair job fair

COLUMBUS (AP) — Hundreds — including some who waited for hours in line — have applied for just 120 temporary jobs with this summer’s Ohio State Fair.

Susan Weyrick, human resources director, with the agency that organizes the fair says Monday’s crowd of job seekers was the most she’d ever seen on the first day applications were accepted.

Several applicants said they were willing to take any position with the fair, given the state of the economy and with few other jobs available.

Weyrick usually hands out the employment forms from her office but this time set up tables at the fairgrounds.

About 600 people will work the fair during its 12-day run beginning July 29. But all but 120 of those jobs will go to workers returning from last year.
