NEW YORK — Lindsay Whalen had 14 points and a career-high 12 rebounds to lead the Connecticut Sun. Erin Phillips scored 13 points and Asjha Jones added 10 to help the Sun (1-1) bounce back from season-opening loss at home to Washington the previous night. Shameka Christon scored 13 points and Janel McCarville had 10 for the Liberty (0-1), who dropped to 3-10 in their season openers.

Mystics 77, Dream 71

WASHINGTON — Alana Beard scored 16 of her 27 points in the third quarter after Washington’s reserves sparked a big run in the second quarter and the Mystics won their home opener. Matee Ajavon added 10 points as the Mystics (2-0) opened the season with consecutive wins for the first time in franchise history. Chamique Holdsclaw, who was selected by the Mystics with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1999 draft, scored 12 points for the Dream (1-1). She became the ninth player in WNBA history to score 4,000 points when she made the second of two free throws 1:46 into the game.

Lynx 96, Fever 74

INDIANAPOLIS — Charde Houston scored a career-high 23 points and Minnesota beat Indiana. The Lynx shot a team-record 63 percent from the field. Seimone Augustus scored 19 points, Nicky Anosike scored 17 and Candice Wiggins added 10 for Minnesota (2-0). Yolanda Griffith scored 17 points and Katie Douglas added 16 for Indiana (0-2).
