Police expect to charge man beaten by mob
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Authorities are awaiting results of DNA tests that they believe will link a 26-year-old man to the rape of an 11-year-old Philadelphia girl.
Jose Carrasquillo is in custody on unrelated charges and police expect to charge him in last Monday’s rape of a girl walking to school in the city’s Kensington section.
The suspect allegedly threatened to shoot the girl before leading her behind a house and sexually assaulting her.
Carrasquillo was beaten on June 2 by angry neighborhood residents after police identified him as a “person of interest” in the case.
At a weekend barbecue, the girl’s family thanked the community for their help. Two men who captured Carrasquillo will split an $11,500 reward.
The DNA results could come Monday.
