POLAND — Worn, frayed, torn or faded American flags can be retired honorably during a flag-disposal ceremony.
The ceremony will begin at 8:45 p.m. June 26 at the Sons of American Legion Mahoning Valley Squadron 15 Post, 35 Cortland St.
Squadron 15 has hosted the event for eight consecutive years, and invites the public to attend. The Celebrate Poland fireworks display will follow at 10 p.m.
Flags can be dropped off at the Post Home in a receptacle marked “flag disposal” or by calling (330) 757-8711.
A chicken dinner also will be served from 6 to 9 p.m. that night. Tickets are $8, and dinners include a half-chicken, potato, coleslaw and bread.
Accident victim released
CHAMPION — The passenger of a motorcycle that lost control on North Leavitt Road, killing its driver, has been discharged from the hospital.
Jaime Clapp, 33, of Warren, was riding with Lawrence Schilcher Jr., 45, of Warren, around 8:30 p.m. Saturday when Schilcher lost control of the motorcycle while going around a slight left curve.
Both people were thrown off the motorcycle as it struck two mailboxes, then overturned.
Schilchler was pronounced dead at the scene, and Clapp was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Health Center in Youngstown. She was released Sunday.
Recreation programs
HOWLAND — The Howland Township Summer Youth Sport and Recreation Programs scheduled for the week of June 15 through 19 from 9 a.m. to noon are FunTastic Sports and games at Howland Township Park. Wear athletic shoes and attire. It is for ages 6-13.

Camp for children set
NEWTON FALLS — The Salvation Army will have its Camp NEOSA for children 6-12 from July 1-6.
There will be fishing, swimming, hiking, nature studies, crafts and many more fun things to do. There is no charge for Camp NEOSA.
The camp is located near Carrollton and is fully sanctioned by the SA. Go to the Church Mouse, 261‚Ñ2 N. Broad St., and get a camp application as soon as possible. There is room for about 30 children this year. Applications are given on a first-come, first-served basis.
