PROMOTION
New Air Force captain
Air Force Capt. Jussus D.R. Sanchez was recently promoted to his current rank while stationed at Yokota Air Force Base, Japan, where he is a combat systems officer on a C-130 Hercules, a tactical cargo and personnel transport aircraft.
Sanchez, the son of Reinaldo and Wildemina Ocasio Sanchez of Boardman, graduated from Boardman High School in 2000 and received a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in 2004.
Sergeant major at academy
Army Sgt. Maj. Gary W. Coleman Jr. has been appointed command sergeant major for the Army Sergeants Major Academy at Fort Bliss, Texas. Coleman will be assigned as a battalion command sergeant major at Fort Hood, Texas. He has served in the military for 21 years.
Coleman is the son of Gary W. Sr. and Joyce M. Coleman, and the brother of Kandice L. Coleman, all of East Liverpool. His wife, Tammy, is the daughter of Dennis and Sandy Judy of Flippin, Ark.
He graduated in 1987 from East Liverpool High School and received an associate degree in 1987 from Excelsior College in Texas.
VETERANS
Free seminar
CORTLAND — Mark Walters of the Trumbull County Veterans Service Commission is offering a free seminar for wartime veterans and their spouses at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Lake Vista Retirement Community Club House at 303 N. Mecca St.
Walters will discuss how veterans can qualify for financial assistance with assisted living and skilled nursing care. Participants are asked to register by Monday by calling Cheryl Lloyd at (330) 638-2420. Light refreshments will be served.

Volunteer work
Air Force Master Sgt. Ken McCullough of Vienna recently worked with a group of airmen from Manas Air Base who, on their off-duty time, made improvements to and played with the children at Umut-Nadjeshda Children’s Rehabilitation Center in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
McCullough is a superintendent for the 376th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron and is deployed from the 1st Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron at Hurlburt Field, Fla.
