Mr., Mrs. Rhodes renew nuptial vows on anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN — On May 16, 1959, Charles Rhodes and Elsie Livas exchanged nuptial vows as they were united in marriage at Antioch Baptist Church. Those vows were renewed on May 16, 2009, in the presence of the Rev. Gary Frost, as Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rhodes of 77 Whitman Lane celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
The renewal ceremony took place at St. Mark’s Social Hall and was followed by a dinner party hosted by their nieces, Marian Wilson, Maureen Wilson and Joette Logan.
The couple have a son, Michael M. Rhodes of Ashtabula, and four grandchildren, Micaela, Michael Jr., Amari and Asiah Rhodes.
Mrs. Rhodes was employed by Youngstown City Schools as a sixth-grade teacher at Kirkmere Elementary School prior to retiring in 1996.
Mr. Rhodes, a U.S. Army Korean War veteran, served from 1954 to 1957. He was a job bank and training coordinator with General Motors Fabricating Plant in Lordstown until retiring in 1993.
The couple were also honored during a cake and punch reception on May 17 at Rising Star Baptist Church, where they are members.
