Gallery expands children’s workshops

NILES — The Art Outreach Gallery in Eastwood Mall is expanding its summer workshops and children’s programs this year, with classes running from July 6 to July 31.

The workshops are designed for students 4 to 18 years of age. Area art educators and students from Kent State University, Youngstown State University, Art Institute of Boston and Capital University will conduct the workshops.

Space and supplies are limited. Students must register. A donation of a nonperishable food item to Second Harvest Food Bank is all that is required.

Class information and registration forms can be downloaded at artoutreach.org, or picked up at the gallery or the Eastwood Mall customer service center. Completed forms can be dropped off at the gallery or mall service center.

Young country singer enters recording deal

STRUTHERS — Candace Campana, 18, a country singer from Struthers, has been offered a contract with the independent record label RowPro in Nashville. She is seeking investors and/or sponsors for a recording project. Donations are being accepted at Huntington Bank, in care of Candace Campana recording account.

Campana is the valedictorian of Struthers High School’s class of 2009, and the daughter of T.J. and Debbie Campana.

She has sung at a variety of local events and has performed at the Youngstown Playhouse and with Easy Street Productions.

Youth theater to present ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ musical

SALEM — Salem Community Theatre’s Youth Theatre’s production of “Jekyll & Hyde” opens at 8 p.m. Friday for a two-weekend run. Performances of the musical will also be at 8 p.m. Saturday and June 19 and 20; and 2 p.m. June 21. Call (330) 332-9688 for reservations.

Applications available for theater workshop

YOUNGSTOWN — Top Hat Productions is taking applications for its free youth workshop, “The Summer of Jonah.” Attendees will learn simple concepts of theater, including song, movement and stage presence while building self-esteem. Short lessons on the biblical Jonah will also be presented. A hot meal will be served at each session.

Workshops will be at Fairview Arts and Outreach Center, 4220 Youngstown-Poland Road, on Wednesdays beginning June 17 and are open to children ages 5 through 12. The program culminates with a stage production Aug. 9.
