Ursuline falls, 5-0, to Hebron Lakewood in Division III state softball championship
Ursuline High lost to Hebron Lakewood, 5-0, Saturday in a Division III state softball championship game at Firestone Stadium in Akron.
Hebron Lakewood broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning with four runs to take a 4-0 lead entering the sixth inning. They key hit was by pitcher Alissa Birkhimer who slammed a bases-loaded single to give the Lancers a 3-0 lead, Hebron Lakewood then added another run to win, 5-0. Birkhimer finished with a four-hitter.
Ursuline finished the season with a 27-7 record while Hebron Lakewood improved to 30-4.
Ursuline gained the final with a 7-1 win over Magnolia Sandy Valley Friday in a semifinal.
Hebron Lakewood advanced with a 4-1 win over Columbus Ready Friday in the other semifinal.
