Stolen kittens need medical care

YOUNGSTOWN — Employees of The Cat Ladies Society seek the safe return of two kittens stolen from the society’s shelter.

Maria Guyan, shelter director, said Pookie, a 4-week-old long-haired brown tabby, and David, an 8-week-old seal point Siamese mix, were taken from their cages late Thursday evening.

“We had gone into the back room for only a minute to care for a few sick kittens when they were snatched,” Guyan said. “The cages were closed, so we didn’t immediately notice that they were missing.”

Guyan said because David looks like a purebred Siamese, it’s likely he was taken to be sold. She said he’s not purebred and urges whoever has the kittens to return them to the shelter immediately.

She said both kittens had been at the no-kill shelter for only a few hours and are in need of medical attention.

Pookie has a severe intestinal disorder that could quickly lead to his death without his medication, and David had just returned from foster care, where he was being monitored after a serious illness.

“Pookie’s life may be in danger,” she said. “Becoming snake food or dog-fighting bait are our biggest worries.”

A donor is offering a $100 reward for the kittens’ safe return. Guyan said no questions will be asked.
