Springfield baseball falls 3-1 in state championship game


6:48 p.m. Springfield gos down 1-2-3 in the seventh and falls, 3-1, to Hamler Patrick Henry. The Tigers end their outstanding season with a 29-5 record.

6:33 p.m.: The Tigers go down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 6th. The score remains 3-1 in favor of Patrick Henry.

6:22 p.m.: Patrick Henry added a run in the top of the fifth, chasing starting pitcher Travis Richey, to lead 3-1. Todd Kibby, who won Friday's semifinal game with a complete-game performance, has come on in relief. The Tigers got a base hit by Richey with two outs in the bottom of the inning but stranded him.

6:03 p.m.: Both teams had their chances but couldn't score in the fourth inning. Patrick Henry left the bases loaded for the second time in the game, and Springfield wasted a one-out double by Dylon DeJane and leaves him stranded at third. The score remains 2-1 in favor of Patrick Henry.

5:51 p.m.: Both teams went down 1-2-3 in the third inning, keeping the score 2-1 in favor of Patrick Henry. The Tigers had a couple of nice defensive plays by Travis Richey and Frank Sferra.

5:42 p.m.: Springfield gets a run in the second inning to trail 2-1. Bryan Visingardi drew a leadoff walk and came around to score on Matt Semach's sacrifice fly to right.

5:20 p.m.: Springfield trails Patrick Henry 2-0 after the first inning.

5:07 p.m.: The game is finally getting underway about an hour later than scheduled between Springfield and Hamler Patrick Henry for the Division IV state baseball championship.

Springfield is the home team.
