Rev. Manning to head theology department


CANTON — The Rev. Dr. J. Patrick Manning was named chair of the Theology Department at Walsh University.

Father Manning has been vice president and vice rector at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus since January, 2004.

He was ordained July 23, 1978, and completed seminary studies at North American College in Rome.

After his ordination, he served as associate pastor at St. Joseph Church in Ashtabula.

He was appointed to the faculty of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Louisville in 1980 and in 1984 was appointed associate principal there. In 1987, Father Manning was appointed associate principal at John F. Kennedy High School in Warren.

Father Manning became pastor of University Parish Newman Center in Kent in 1991 and pastor at Regina Coeli Parish in Alliance in 1998.

Father Manning completed his doctoral dissertation in 1998.

He also served as an advocate for the Diocesan Tribunal and as a member of the Priests’ Council and the Diocesan Liturgical Commission.
