Church Women United collections will benefit worldwide charities

BOARDMAN — Two collections to benefit charitable causes highlighted the observance of May Friendship Day by Church Women United at St. James Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave.

The theme was “Building on Our Stories.”

The Fellowship of the Least Coin, a worldwide movement now in service for more than 50 years, is a part of the CWU May Celebration. CWU is an active partner in supporting FLC. Each woman participating in FLC prays regularly for peace and reconciliation in families, work places, and communities, her nation and the world. The effort collected $300.

A special offering of $593 was received for the Church World Service blanket project.

The event was attended by 50 people and included Warren CWU.

Presentations were given by Jacqueline Burley, director of Protestant Family Service, and Elsie Dursi, director of Mahoning Valley Associatioon of Churches.

After the presentations, the worship service was conducted by Kathleen Johnson, ecumenical chairperson.

During the lunch hour, Staughton and Alice Lynd presented a program on their new publication of “Stepping Stones: A Memoir of a Life Together.” It is a joint memoir by two longtime participants in movements for social change in the United States.

The luncheon for the Denominational Representatives of CWU will be at noon Monday at Park Vista North meeting room, at 1310 Fifth Avenue.
