WARREN — An 85-year-old city man faces a misdemeanor charge of aggravated trespass after he evicted two elderly sisters from their home on Morrell Ray Road in Mecca Township without notice.
Michael Salcone of Gretchen Drive will be arraigned on the charge in Trumbull County Area Court in Cortland, said Sean O’Brien, an assistant county prosecutor. He didn’t know when the hearing would take place.
A report from the sheriff’s department said Salcone, the women’s landlord, ordered the women, ages 72 and 69, to leave their home about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The 72-year-old said Salcone entered the home and said she and her sister had to leave the residence immediately. The women protested that they had nowhere to go, but Salcone persisted, the woman said.
Salcone took the house key from them, escorted them outside, locked the door and left, the 72-year-old said, adding that all of her belongings and her medication were still inside.
The women called police, and when a deputy sheriff contacted Salcone, Salcone said he felt the women were too old to live by themselves, and he wanted them out.
Salcone returned to the home after talking to the deputy, returned the key to the women and allowed them back inside the house, the sheriff’s department said.
If convicted of the first-degree misdemeanor, Salcone could face up to six months in jail. Salcone was not arrested and booked on the charge, but he was issued a summons, O’Brien said.
