DRESS CODE | Austintown schools
More than 100 parents, students and others came to a meeting Thursday to hear about what is and isn’t acceptable for those in grades six through 12 to wear to school. A sample:
Hair color for girls and highlights must be within the spectrum of natural colors, such as blond, red, black, auburn and brunette, and hair is not to cover the eyes.
Jewelry or accessories that could be used as weapons are prohibited. These include spiked rings, bracelets and dog collars.
No hoods or hoodies. An exception is a hood on a coat during winter, which cannot be worn during school hours.
Any gang attire, signs or symbols are not permitted, including bandannas bearing anything gang-related.
No color restrictions for pants, except denim jeans, which must be blue or black.
Students’ footwear has to enclose their toes. Flip-flops, shoes with wheels and shower shoes are unacceptable.
Skirts and dresses have to come within 2 inches of the tops of the knees.
Certain uniforms such as Boy or Girl Scout attire can be worn on days of scheduled functions.
Some sweaters and vests have to be accompanied by an undergarment shirt. These include cardigans, V-necks, full- and half-zipper pullovers.
