The registration deadline is Monday.
STAFF REPORT
CORTLAND — The Trumbull Soil & Water Conservation District will have a two-day “Watershed Field School” for children age 9 through 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 23 and 24 at the Trumbull Agriculture & Family Education Center, 520 W. Main St.
Students will experience hands-on activities while exploring the worlds of soils, animals, wetlands and forestry and learn how they are all connected in a watershed.
Activities are designed for education and fun, said Kelly Hardval, SWCD education coordinator. Students also will participate in site visits to Mosquito State Park and Walnut Run Creek with exploration of fish and wildlife in streams and ponds.
The children will make nature crafts, play outdoor games and conduct storm-drain marking and water-quality testing.
Presenters and instructors will include staff members of Trumbull Soil & Water Conservation District, the Penn-Ohio Watershed Association, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Parks & Recreation, and Ohio State University Extension.
The cost for participants is $20, which covers the cost of the lunch and snacks each day along with the field trips and lesson materials.
Registration deadline is Monday. Space is limited. Registered participants will receive their educational packet including a map, schedule, and health/release forms about two weeks before the school.
For more information or to receive registration materials and releases for the school, stop by the Trumbull Agriculture and Family Education Center or call Hardval at (330) 637-2056 ext. 110.
