Compared to other rising costs, postage is a bargain
EDITOR:
I guess I’m stupid, but I just don’t understand all the ruckus about the two-cent postal increase. I am not wealthy, and our small home business has suffered greatly in this economic nightmare just like everyone else. We don’t mail all that much, so the impact isn’t that great, but let’s think about this, people.
Your mail is delivered six days a week including when there are blizzard conditions that close schools and businesses. Never mind heat, rain storms and vicious animals.
You can’t even start your vehicle for 44 cents, much less deliver a letter across the city or country.
I disagree with people’s comments about e-mail. Certainly it is a speedy and wonderful tool. How much does that internet access coat you every month?
The main concern I have is the same one I have when you use the stamp machines at the post office, use the self-service and mail in your license plate renewals. They want to close the bureau at Hubbard Truck Mall because of low business volume. We all have busy lives, but in the scheme of things, is fifteen minutes waiting in line going to ruin your day? Do you realize you are putting people out of work? Don’t we have enough people losing their jobs everyday?
I think the Postal Service rate hike is reasonable. Gasoline and groceries go up 10, 15 or 20 cents overnight. Now that is a reason to do more than gripe. Why aren’t those things being held accountable?
In case you’re wondering I don’t have friends or family working for the post office.
