Annual water report
Annual water report
YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Water Department recently mailed a copy of its consumer confidence report to its customers.
The report informs customers of what is in their drinking water, which the city purchases from Meander Water. The department is required under the federal Safe Drinking Water Act to provide the information to its customers annually by July 1.
There are approximately 65,000 laboratory tests per year performed on 145 contaminants. No violations occurred in this 2008 calendar year, according to the department.
The city purchases and distributes approximately 19 million gallons per day through 750 miles of pipelines to residents of Youngstown and to the townships of Austintown, Boardman, Canfield and Liberty. It also sells bulk water to Mineral Ridge, Girard and the city of Canfield as well as to North Jackson.
Further information and/or another copy of the report can be obtained by contacted the department’s engineering office at (330) 742-8765.
