Sad news for the Jolly Bar: Demolition

YOUNGSTOWN —The city’s Design Review Committee approved the demolition of two former downtown bars today.

The dilapidated buildings will be taken down by the end of the month and replaced with parking spaces, said John P. Coyne, owner of MC Investments, a Cleveland company. The company is spending about $400,000 for the two projects.

The Jolly Bar at 31 Spring Commons, closed for about a decade, and another former bar, closed for about 30 years, on the southwest corner of West Commerce Street and Symphony Place, are being demolished. Committee members and Coyne didn’t know the name of the latter bar.

After demolition, 26 parking spots will replace the buildings.
