Scrappers head home with a loss
AUBURN, N.Y. — The Auburn Doubledays scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a tie and defeated the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, 4-2, in a New York-Penn League baseball game on Thursday night.
The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Scrappers, who return home tonight to face Batavia, the first of four straight home games at Eastwood Field.
The Doubledays scored quickly in the eighth off Scrappers reliever Jose Urena. Sean Ochinko led off with a double, then Welinton Ramirez followed with a RBI triple and Yan Gomes hit a run-scoring double.
The Scrappers loaded the bases in the ninth inning off Austin Armstrong. With two outs, Tim Palincsar walked and went to second with Ben Carlson reached on an error. Jason Smit then walked before Kyle Smith grounded into a game-ending force out.
Mahoning Valley was held to four hits, including a run-scoring triple by Casey Frawley.
