Nearly 600 NCR Ohio workers to lose their jobs

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — NCR Corporation has told the state of Ohio that nearly 600 of the company’s 1,300 Dayton workers will lose their jobs by the end of 2010 when the company finishes moving its headquarters to Georgia.

The maker of ATMs and retail checkout scanners detailed the layoffs in a letter to the state Thursday.

The letter was first reported by WDTN-TV, which said most of the layoffs will come in December and June.

NCR spokesman Peter Tulupman declined to comment.

NCR began notifying its Dayton employees this week about who will be offered transfers to Georgia.

NCR announced in early June that it is moving its headquarters to Duluth, Ga., near Atlanta, by the end of next year. The company said it would keep its data center and support for local customers in Dayton.
