Grohl Alley dedication to highlight festival

WARREN — The Music Is Art Festival continues through Saturday, when it will climax with the dedication of David Grohl Alley in downtown Warren at 4 p.m.

More than 50 bands have donated their time to the week-long festival on Courthouse Square downtown.

Children’s and solo acts are scheduled for this afternoon and evening, and rock music is on tap for Friday and Saturday.

Grohl, frontman for Grammy-winning rock band the Foo Fighters and the drummer for the influential band Nirvana, has been invited to attend the event, but he hasn’t confirmed if he will attend.

Jennifer Campbell of Main Street Warren, sponsor of the festival, was optimistic this week that Grohl would make it to Saturday's dedication.

Grohl was born in Warren in 1969 but only lived there for the first year or two of his life. He still has family in the area.

Campbell said the festival’s success could give rise to future events to honor famous Warren-area natives.

One example, she said, would be a film festival to honor filmmaker Chris Columbus, a Champion native.
