Raid yields Oxycontin, heroin
STAFF REPORT
LEETONIA — Leetonia Shell Mart, 311 Columbia St., was closed Tuesday after a drug raid by federal and local authorities.
Erik J. Kochanowski, a special agent with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, said Oxycotin pills and half an ounce of heroin were seized.
At least five people are facing arrest.
One person was charged with possession of marijuana and was released. Another person was charged with trafficking in drugs and is in custody.
The other three people face charges, likely through grand juries.
Officials did not release any of their names.
The bust was part of an ongoing probe, mostly in Columbiana and Mahoning counties.
Dan Downard, the head of the Columbiana County drug unit, said the cost of street sales of each Oxycotin tablet is based on its strength.
The heroin would cost about $1,200 to $1,500 on the street, according to the officers.
The gas station was closed most of Tuesday while officials waited for other suspects to arrive. The owners were not available.
The station is a short distance from the village hall.
