Boardman chief Berarducci starts Medina top cop job Monday

BOARDMAN — Township Police Chief Patrick Berarducci will start as chief of the Medina Police Department Monday. He plans to clean out his office in the township government center over the weekend.

Medina’s mayor offered Berarducci the job last week and he accepted. This week, city council unanimously approved the appointment.

He said his annual salary will be about $92,000. In Boardman, he earned $103,709 annually.

But Medina also pays the chief’s contribution to the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund, which amounts to about 10 percent more pay. His healthcare contribution also will be lower in the new job, Berarducci said, making the net pay comparable.

The Medina job is civil service.

A former agent with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Berarducci was appointed township chief in February 2007.
