Austintown official touts electric program

STAFF REPORT

AUSTINTOWN — Township residents could save money on future electric bills.

Trustee Lisa Oles said township trustees approved placing an agreement for energy-consulting services on the November ballot.

Oles said the agreement is for a governmental aggregation program that will help reduce overall electric costs for residents and business owners.

She said if voters approve the agreement with Independent Energy Consultants in Aurora, they could save on their electric bills over a three-year period.

“It’s a guaranteed savings at least 10 percent over and above what Ohio Edison gives us for electric,” Oles said. “It’s absolutely no cost to the clients and customers at all.”

She said details about the program will be mailed to residents, but information should also be available at the Austintown Township Administration Building on Norquest Boulevard.

“Obviously if it’s a guaranteed savings and it means more money in our residents’ pockets, it’s always a positive thing,” Oles said.

The township is also participating in a two-year, fixed-rate gas-aggregation program through Vectren Source, which Oles said is different from the electric program.
