Argument in Warren ends in stabbing death
WARREN — A daylong argument between a man and woman over beer and cigarettes on North Park Avenue turned deadly just before midnight Tuesday, with Craig A. Holliday, 39, dead of a stab wound to the chest in the bathroom of 832 North Park Avenue N.E. and the woman charged with murder.
Police said the woman, Melanie Ferrell, 37, of Washington Street Northeast, flagged down a police officer in the street in front of the house and told him she had stabbed Holliday.
“I can’t believe I stabbed him,” she said.
A witness said the stabbing occurred after Holliday was acting aggressively toward Ferrell in the parking lot of USA Gas Mart next door to Holliday’s home and had “nearly stabbed Melanie in the chest with a tool that he carries.”
Melanie then stabbed Holliday with a knife that she pulled from under her shirt, the witness told police.
Ferrell was video arraigned early Wednesday in Warren Municipal Court, where Judge Terry Ivanchak entered an innocent plea for her to a murder charge. He set bond at $500,000. The charge carries a penalty of three to 10 years in prison.
