Man gets 60 days for punch that proved fatal
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio State University student has received a 60-day jail sentence for throwing a punch that led to a man’s death last year.
Twenty-three-year-old Brent Goode of Columbus read a statement in court Monday saying he was sorry for what happened. He said he felt “sick with disbelief” when he learned nursing student Nickolas Foss had died.
Goode pleaded guilty last month to felonious assault. Police said the other man fell and hit his head on the sidewalk when struck by Goode during an April 2008 argument outside a Columbus bar. Twenty-nine-year-old Foss died two days later after never regaining consciousness.
At Monday’s sentencing, Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Stephen McIntosh also gave Goode three years’ probation and fined him $2,000.
