Four injured in blast at Ohio plant

McARTHUR, Ohio (AP) — Police say four people have been injured in an explosion at an explosives plant in southeast Ohio.

Sgt. Carolyn Brown of the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office says three people are being flown from the Austin Powder Co. site to hospitals by medical helicopter. She says a fourth person received minor injuries in the blast around 10:30 a.m. today.

Brown says police, fire, EMS and emergency management crews are on the scene.

Brown says the identities of the injured were not available. She was unaware what caused the explosion in one of the buildings at the multifacility plant just east of McArthur.

Cleveland-based Austin Powder manufactures industrial explosives and accessories and performs blasting services. It also has main plants in Arkansas, Texas and Mexico.
