Ex-editor gets no extra time in Pa. sex-sting case

GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — A former western Pennsylvania sports editor has received no additional prison or probation time at his re-sentencing for chatting online with a police officer posing as a 12-year-old girl.

Thomas Rose, 56, of Delmont, has been serving a four-year probation sentence imposed in 2006 on a misdemeanor count.

He was re-sentenced today after the Superior Court last year reversed a Westmoreland County judge’s decision to throw out a related felony conviction in the case.

Judge Richard McCormick Jr. decided not to impose any additional time, however, after Rose’s attorney said he was being treated for Internet addiction and was writing a book on the subject. Rose formerly worked at the Observer-Reporter in Washington, Pa.
