Thunder Select wins NABF

STRUTHERS — Thunder Select scored five times in the first three innings and went on to defeat 1080 Media, 5-4, in Sunday’s championship game of the NABF Senior Regional at Cene Park.

Cory Gravesmill had two hits for the winners while Garrett Emling tossed 51‚Ñ3 innings for the pitching win.

Cody Umbright picked up the save, allowing no hits in the last 12‚Ñ3 innings.

Joe Aulizia had two hits for 1080 and kept the team in the game as he tossed four innings of one-hit, scoreless relief with three strikeouts.

Thunder Select advances to the NABF World Series in Jackson, Miss., beginning on Aug. 4.

Earlier Sunday, Evan Campbell pounded out three hits, including a triple and a three-run home run to lead 1080 Media to a 12-2 win over the MAF Gators.

Campbell drove home six runs to send his team to the championship game.

Brad Byers added three hits while Dan Popio and Anthony Raschilla had two hits each.

Paul Indrihovic struck out seven in going the distance for the win.

Late Saturday, 1080 Media defeated Thunder Select, 3-2, to remain alive. Nick Crum and Matt Harmon combined on a three-hitter as 1080 Media handed Thunder Select its only loss of the tournament.

Crum went 41‚Ñ3 innings allowing one unearned run for the win while Harmon allowed just one unearned run in 22‚Ñ3 innings of work for the save. Byers doubled.

Patrick Kilway had a single and a double for Thunder Select.

Also late Saturday, MAG Gators eliminated Astro Falcons, 5-2.

Kenny Rundo had a pair of hits and drove home two runs for the Gators as Vince Bartolone tossed a complete game with five strikeouts.

Jared Turocy and Mike Natale had two hits each for the Astro Falcons.

NABF Junior Regional

The North Coast Vipers completed a perfect 5-0 tournament run with a 7-5 victory over the Astro Falcons in the NABF Junior Regional Championship Game.

Sawyer Polen had three hits and scored three times while Ian Mezlak had a pair of hits and drove home two runs for the Vipers.

Brandon Grunda tossed 31‚Ñ3 innings of two hit relief for the win with six strikeouts.

Tom Strasko went 12‚Ñ3 innings for the save.

Ronnie Bovo had three hits in a losing effort for the Astro Falcons. Tommy Delullo went five innings in relief, allowing one run with five strikeouts.

The Vipers advance to the NABF World Series in Northville, Mich., starting on Wednesday.

Colt Regional

1080 Media won twice to advance to today’s game against Action Physical Therapy at 3 p.m. at Boardman’s Fields of Dreams. If 1080 wins, a second game will follow.

1080 Media scored six times in the third inning and went on to knock out Chambersburg (Pa.), 12-6.

Logan Kane tossed four innings for the win, striking out four, while Pat Rhodes had two hits.

1080 took advantage of nine errors by Chambersburg to score eight unearned runs.

John Sollenberger tripled and doubled while Dustin Shauf homered and drove in four runs.

The 15-10 win against Seneca Valley (Pa.) featured 29 hits.

Today’s final winner advances to the Colt Zone Tournament in Greensboro, N.C., that begins Friday.

Brad Smith and Gerrad Rohan had three hits each with Rohan driving home three runs and Smith two for 1080.

John Beatty had a home run and a single while Ryan Trimbur a double and a single.

Chris Dahlstrom had three hits and Bob Dillman and Joey Stadtfeld had two each for Seneca.

Class AA

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown Metros defeated Nemenz, 8-0, Saturday at Pemberton Park to tie their best-of-three Youngstown Class AA League playoff series at 1-1.

Alex Oles tossed the shutout while Cory Johnson, Matt Pitzulo and Matt Durkin had key hits for the winners.
