Medical school gets $200,000 for capital improvements

COLUMBUS — The state Controlling Board released nearly $200,000 Monday for two improvement projects at the Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy.

The state lawmaker panel, without comment, approved $119,900 for the second phase of a building restoration at the Rootstown campus. The work involves fixing cracking and crumbling mortar to prevent water leaks and improving the appearance of the building.

Another $74,570 will be used for storm sewer upgrades. Several academic buildings flood during heavy rainfalls; the funds released Monday will be used to install additional basins and larger drainage piping.
