Surprise party honors Castros for 50th anniversary

CAMPBELL — A surprise party and buffet dinner on July 19 at the Elm Tree in Struthers honored Manuel and Barbara Castro, 546 Blossom Ave., for their 50th anniversary.

As part of the celebration, the couple went on a cruise to the Bahamas in June.

Party hosts were the couple’s children, Melanie and Jeff Roch of Boardman and Manuel Castro Jr. of Youngstown, and grandchildren, Macey, Jeffrey and Brittany Roch .

Mrs. Castro retired in 2001 as an administrative assistant for Standard Register in Boardman.

Mr. Castro retired in 1981 from the metallurgical department of U.S. Steel and in 2001 from Polaris Technologies in Austintown. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-56, achieving the rank of Spc. 2.

The former Barbara Switka and Mr. Castro were married on June 27, 1959, at St. John the Baptist Church in Campbell, where they are members.
