Mr., Mrs. Prokop mark 60 years of marriage together

LIBERTY — Peter and Helen Prokop of Liberty celebrated 60 years of marriage on June 19.

They were united in holy matrimony on June 19, 1949, at Holy Trinity Church in Youngstown.

The couple have four children: Douglas Prokop of Liberty, Laura and Chuck Basich of Columbus, Marion and Dr. Vincent Tuohy of Cleveland, and Peter and Mimi Prokop of Cincinnati. The family includes three grandchildren, Annie, Maggie and Kevin.

A family dinner was hosted by the children at the Tuohy home.

Mrs. Prokop retired from Home Savings and Loan Co. and has been a homemaker.

Mr. Prokop retired as a schoolteacher at Liberty High School. He was also the head basketball coach from 1950-1971. When he retired, Liberty fans honored him with a dinner and presented him with a new car. Mr. Prokop received six Hall of Fame Awards for his coaching career.

He served in World War II in the 4th Infantry Division, which landed on Utah Beach on D-Day. Mr. Prokop has been in the insurance business for 32 years.
