Canfield wins Little League state opener

TALLMADGE — The Canfield 11-12-year-old Little League baseball team opened up state tournament play Saturday with a 7-5 win over last year’s runner-up, Defiance.

Dan Brown pitched five strong innings for the win. Jon Saadey came in the sixth to earn a save.

At the plate, Alec Hammond homered and doubled while Brown and Vince Leone also homered. Saadey and Job Yeaton also had hits.

Monday, Canfield will play in the winners bracket at 3 p.m. against an opponent to be determined today.
