Service of Thanksgiving on Sunday to recognize Monsignor Adamiak

YOUNGSTOWN — Monsignor Leo A. Adamiak, pastor emeritus of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, will be recognized at a moleben service of thanksgiving at 3 p.m. Sunday at the gathering room at Park Vista Retirement Community, 1216 Fifth Ave.

Monsignor Adamiak, who served as pastor of the church for 54 years, also is observing his 63rd anniversary as priest. He was ordained July 12, 1946.

At Holy Trinity at 526 W. Rayen Ave., he was involved in building the rectory, renovation of the church and construction of the outdoor shrine adjacent to the church.

Monsignor Adamiak received the title of Papal Chamberlain on May 10, 1958, from Pope Pius XII; the title of Prelate of Honor on Nov. 19, 1984, by Pope John Paul II; and the honorary title of mitred archpriest on March 3, 1996, by Cardinal Myroslav Lubachivsky.

He was the founding pastor of St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church in Austintown and served from 1966-75.
