Protesters demand Pittsburgh mayor create jobs

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Union members have protested outside Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl’s office demanding jobs.

Ravenstahl’s spokeswoman Joanna Doven says the doors were not chained shut to prevent the protesters who arrived at about 8 a.m. today from entering. Doven says the doors are locked until 9 a.m.

Doven says all the mayor’s employees were able to get to work today despite the protest. She says Ravenstahl is not in the office and will not be in today due to prescheduled events.

The Service-Sector unions say about 100 members participated in today’s protest. They say they are protesting the low-wage jobs created by new developments subsidized by taxpayer money. They say the jobs keep families poor.
