Job fair next week at West Corp.
STAFF REPORT
NILES — West Corp. is having a job fair next week as it adds 75 workers to its Niles call center.
The starting pay rate is $8.50 an hour, but that will increase to $10 after a 90-day training period, said Dave Pleiss, vice president of Nebraska-based West.
The job fair at the center at 5185 Youngstown-Warren Road will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Interested people also can apply online at www.westemployment.com.
The Niles center has 1,280 employees.
“We’re really pleased with the people who work there, and we want to continue to grow that facility,” Pleiss said.
Additional workers are needed because a client has increased business and needs to increase the volume of incoming calls handled at the center, he said.
Pleiss declined to reveal the client other than to say it provides wireless phone service.
Company officials have said in the past, however, that one of the center’s major clients is AT&T. The local center handles customer service calls for Apple iPhone users because the phone uses the AT&T network.
AT&T said in an earnings release Thursday that it activated more than 2.4 million iPhones in the second quarter, and more than a third of those were for customers who were new to the carrier. Apple I and AT&T launched a new model of the phone June 19.
West employs 43,000 at call centers in North America, Europe and Asia.
