Ohio 3-year-old apparently shot self; second child to do so

VANDALIA, Ohio (AP) — For the second time in less than a week, a young boy in southwest Ohio has died after a shooting in the home.

A police report says a 3-year-old in the Dayton suburb of Vandalia apparently shot himself in the face with a handgun Tuesday. William McNaul died at a Dayton hospital later in the day. A 911 call from the family said the boy found the gun under a bed.

Vandalia city spokesman Rich Hopkins calls it an “absolutely tragic accident.” Police Lt. Harry Busse said Wednesday that details of the shooting would not be released until the investigation was complete.

About 40 miles away in Hamilton, a 5-year-old boy died Saturday of a gunshot wound that a coroner said was self-inflicted. Police are still determining whether charges should be filed.
