Benefit concert at B&O will aid war veterans

YOUNGSTOWN — On Saturday, the city of Youngstown and Vetaid National will host a benefit concert for local war veterans in need. Youngstown River Fest for Vets in Distress will be from 4-11 p.m. at the B&O Station, 530 Mahoning Ave., both indoors and outdoors. Bands will include: Jambone, Trigger, Geo C and the Storm, Mortal Souls (featuring former members of the Human Beingz) and Away from Eden. Admission is $10. There will be music, vendors and games. Thunder in the Park car show in McDonald

McDONALD — The McDonald Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 194 will have its annual Thunder in the Park car show Sunday in Woodland Park. Rain date is Sept. 13. The event is free. Registration for the event is $6 in advance and $8 the day of the show. Advance registration should be mailed to Diz Dean, 403 McKinley Blvd., McDonald, Ohio, 44437. The show will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Registration is 2 to 5 p.m. and judging will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Awards will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Plaques will be awarded to the top 50 cars. The day’s events will include: DJ Crazy Dave, door prizes, a 50-50 raffle and FOP T-shirts.

Food and soft drinks will be available with picnic tables, a playground, a kiddie pool and games of cornhole. Proceeds benefit the McDonald FOP Lodge and its numerous charities.

Art entries sought for Buhl Day show

SHARON, Pa. — Buhl Day Art Show will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Labor Day (Sept. 7). Art work will be judged in four categories: professional, amateur, photography and youth (17 and under). Entry fees for adults are $10 each or three for $25, for up to three pieces. Youth entry fees are $5 each, up to three pieces. Fees must be paid when artwork is dropped off. A driver’s license is required for those who pay by check. All work should be dropped off at the activities building at Buhl Park between 3 and 7 p.m. Sept. 4, and must be display-ready.

This art show is for anyone who lives within a 50-mile radius of Buhl Farm Park. Work must be done by the artist and not previously displayed at any Buhl Day Art Show. Additional entry forms can be picked up at Shenango Valley Senior Center, 220 N. Buhl Farm Drive; The Herald office on Dock Street; The Framing Loft, 45 Concord Road, Hermitage; The Art Frame Gallery, 2190 E.
