STRUTHERS — The board of education accepted bids and awarded contracts Tuesday in the fourth and final phase of the district’s stadium project.

The $1.2 million in improvements began four years ago using money from open enrollments, said district treasurer Michael Evanson.

Phases 2 and 3 last year included demolishing the wooden, metal and concrete stands and replacing them with aluminum bleachers.

Phase 1, completed in 2007, included demolishing the concrete east stands and replacing them with aluminum bleachers.

Phase 4 includes construction of a multipurpose athletic-training center in the vacant lot next to the high school on Euclid Avenue. The center is to include softball and baseball practice areas, batting cages, restrooms and locker rooms, and an alumni hall of fame in the lobby.

The board approved the contracts for the building that will house the locker rooms and restrooms. Hively Construction Co. of Canfield won the contract for general construction out of 11 bidders with a bid of $187,000.

D&G Mechanical Inc. of West Middlesex, Pa., won the contract for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems out of nine bidders with a bid of $44,500.

Ellyson Plumbing and Heating of Salem’s bid of $81,781 won the contract for plumbing out of six bidders. Joe Dickey Electric Inc. of North Lima won the electrical contract out of four bidders with a bid of $32,150.

The total cost is $345,431.
