Multitude of regulators will be at Ohio tracks getting slots

COLUMBUS (AP) — A multitude of regulatory and investigative agencies will have a role at Ohio’s horse racetracks if slot machines materialize.

Opponents of Gov. Ted Strickland’s plan to authorize 2,500 video lottery terminals at each of seven horse tracks around the state have focused on the crime and addiction they expect to follow.

Less has been made of the legion of investigators, auditors, inspectors and other regulators who have an oversight role at the facilities.

Among them are the state attorney general and inspector general, the Department of Taxation, and the racing and lottery commissions.
