YOUNGSTOWN — Interstate 680 southbound between Interstate 80 and Meridian Road will have various lane restrictions from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday for pothole patching.

Thunder in the Park

McDONALD — McDonald Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 194 will have its annual Thunder in the Park 2009 car show Sunday in Woodland Park.

The event is free. Registration fee is $6 in advance and $8 the day of the show. Advance registration should be mailed to Diz Dean, 403 McKinley Blvd., McDonald, OH 44437. For more information, call Dean at (330) 530-1717.

The show will be from 4 to 8 p.m., and registration is 2 to 5 p.m. Judging takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. Awards will be presented at 7:30 p.m.

Plaques will be awarded to the top 50 cars. Awards will include: Top Five, 2000 and up, Mayor’s Award, Chief of Police Award and FOP President’s Award. There will be only one award per car.

The day’s events will include music by disc jockey Crazy Dave, door prizes, a 50-50 raffle and FOP T-shirts.

Food and soft drinks will be available along with picnic tables, playground, kiddie pool and games.

Proceeds benefit the lodge and its numerous charities. Rain date for the event is Sept. 13.

DeChristofaro dies at 53

NILES — Robert DeChristofaro Jr., 53, of Niles, controller for the Trumbull County sanitary engineer’s office in Vienna and brother of county Engineer David DeChristofaro, died unexpectedly Monday evening.

He was playing basketball at the Mayor Ralph Infante Wellness Center in Waddell Park before being taken away in an ambulance, said Rex Fee, sanitary engineer’s executive director.

“He put everything he had into his job, and he will be sorely missed,” Fee said Tuesday. “It’s a tough day here.”

As controller since Jan. 10, 2005, DeChristofaro was responsible for the billing at the agency, which handles water and sewer service in most areas of the county outside the cities.

Restaurant robbery

CAMPBELL — An armed robber threatened three employees and two patrons before grabbing the money drawer and running from the Subway on McCartney Road.

Police report the robber had his T-shirt pulled up to his nose when he showed a handgun at 7:25 p.m. Monday and ordered the employee at the cash register to give him the money. He ordered a couple who were there to get on the floor and empty their pockets but did not take anything from them.

He ran north on Fincastle Street in Youngstown, police said. A witness reported seeing him get into a red Chevrolet Cavalier on Wilmette Street.

Attempted arson

YOUNGSTOWN — A 22-year-old city woman accused of dousing a woman’s house with starter fluid was in the Mahoning County jail late Tuesday night, charged with attempted arson.

Deana Jenkins, of Woodford Avenue, was arrested Tuesday afternoon. A woman who lives in the 600 block of West Ravenwood Avenue on the South Side told police that Jenkins came onto the woman’s front porch about 12:20 p.m. yelling and screaming.

Jenkins then picked up a bottle of the fluid, the woman said, and sprayed it on the woman’s porch, inside her house and on its exterior.

Police said they recovered two lighters from Jenkins.

Boardman fire probed

BOARDMAN — Firefighters are investigating a Tuesday evening fire that damaged a home at 67 S. Cadillac Drive.

No one was injured, and neither the cause nor a damage estimate was available.

Fire crews were dispatched about 7:15 p.m.
