ABERDEEN, Md. — Scrappers outfielder Greg Folgia hit his second home run of the season but Mahoning Valley couldn’t muster much offense in a 3-2 loss to Aberdeen in a New York-Penn League game Tuesday in front of 6,426 fans at Ripken Stadium.
Girard High graduate Stephen Procner pitched one inning of relief for the Ironbirds, giving up the homer to Folgia and striking out a batter to get his second hold of the season.
Procner is 0-2 with a 4.79 ERA in 202‚Ñ3 innings. He’s given up 19 hits, struck out 16 and walked seven.
Catcher Chun Chen had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for Mahoning Valley (19-13), which has lost two straight. He also threw out a runner trying to steal.
Jason Smit, Kyle Smith and Rafael Vera also had hits in the loss.
Clayton Cook (1-2) started and went 42‚Ñ3 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
Vidal Nuno pitched 21‚Ñ3 innings of shutout relief and Cory Burns added a shutout inning.
Nicholas Haughian (2-2) started for Aberdeen (12-19) and went six innings, giving up one run on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
James Brandhorst pitched two no-hit innings with one strikeout to slam the door for the Ironbirds.
